Quinton – The World’s First Bumblebee Sniffer Dog

Quin, a two-year-old Springer Spaniel, is probably the World’s first Bumblebee sniffer dog. With his special detection skills, he successfully finds Bumblebee nests within special conservation areas. His handler claims he is 100% successful and a joy to work with.

Glendale, the Country’s largest green services provider, rescued him from a home for abandoned dogs and trained him for his new job at the Defence Animal Centre at Melton Mowbray.

Quote from Ben Darvill, BBCT Conservation Ecologist and Co-founder

"The arrival of Quin, the sniffer dog has been a revelation for the Bumblebee Conservation Trust. He will enable us to find bumblebee nests easily, whereas before it was almost impossible. We knew almost nothing about the population sizes and nesting requirements of rare bumblebees, but now the data is flooding in. We're enormously grateful to Glendale and the DAC for having the vision to get involved in this project, and the patience to see it through. Many thanks from everyone at BBCT!"

Glendale and the Defence Animal Centre are extremely proud to work with such a talented dog and the visionary team at the BBCT. We will continue to watch with interest as Quin progresses.
